The condition of a research shipment should be documented before the material enters laboratory inventory. A consistent receiving procedure supports traceability, identifies damage early and prevents uncertainty about when a product was transferred to controlled storage.
Review the product name, stated quantity, format, availability and any included materials. Confirm the delivery address, receiving hours and whether staff will be available to inspect the package. Read the supplier's shipping and returns policies before checkout.

Photograph visible damage before opening when a return or shipping claim may be necessary.
Compare the packing information with the product received. Confirm the compound name, quantity, number of containers and included supplies. Record the lot number and label information for each item.
